Week 3: Ish

Questions to Consider:

1.  Is there anything you do "ishly?"  Why do you do it?

2.  In the story, Ramon's brother made fun of him so Ramon didn't want to draw anymore.  But his sister encouraged him and he found his passion for drawing again..... Have you ever been discouraged by others' comments of your "ish" passion?  How did you feel?  Did you give up or persevere?  Has anyone encouraged you to keep going?  How did that make you feel?

3.  How can you encourage others in their "ish" passion?

4. Is there anything you have wanted to do but are afraid that you won't be good enough?  Try it and be proud to do it "ishly"!

  1. (question 2) when someone has some not very good comments for me, at first, I will feel so sad that maybe have a little bit angry. Because I will think about why you said that to me , if you not well-meaning behavior. However, I will hold it all the time and I will never give up. I want let them know that I can do it. Sometimes my parents will encourage me that say some words let feel like I feel fully in charge.
(question 3) I will going to say :” We can complete it step by step however long the road is and it can't be completed however short the road is if you don't even mark your footprint.” This sentence also encourage myself.
(question 4) I afraid to present something in front of the people, however, I is trying that for twice.
I believe that I will be good and also it does not take very long.

  2. I like “Ish” by Peter Reynolds a lot because I can find myself in it. I was not a good artist because I could never draw verisimilitude at all. Nobody told me “it’s ok”, and I just felt bad about my drawing skills. I gave up on art class in the middle school, and most of the time, I asked my classmates to help me finish my drawing homework. When there was question like “Which subject do you like least?” I always thought of studio art.

Luckily, I met my sister. Well, actually, my sisters. I took drawing class in Purnell in the first semester by accident (I didn’t have right to choose class at that time). However, no matter how unrealistic my drawing look like, the teacher always gives me encouragement. I can see the ish feeling in my drawings. I understood that no matter what the drawing look like, or ever how bad that is, if people around me have the eyes of art or artish, they can appreciate my working. I became more confident in studio art. I joined Innar Animal for Project EX in my first year here. Innar animal is a project that gives people opportunities to use different medias to create animal arts. I got to know more media that I had never touched before. Scratch board, linoleum block, canvas board and etc. I was infatuated into using different medias to make art. I take photography class last year, and ceramics this year. Both of them are classes I like very much. I believe that my art works are all pretty good, and I can call myself artistish.

  3. In response to question 2, I have been discouraged a lot by other through my passion of dance. Personally I don't like ballet but I love to dance, it's like chocolate and ice cream both yummy things and together they are beautiful but by themselves are just two separate things. Ballet is hard all the time i feel like i should give up, as traditional movements and technique comes in as well making it all beautiful but when you look at me, i am doing ballet "ishly" and that is okay!! I have to work harder than other and persevere through barre work and all because at the end of the day it will make my dancing look better. My friends are always there to encourage me and it makes me fell good because sometimes you need that person to keep you on your path.
